Extraction 2 is a 2023 American action thriller film directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Joe Russo, based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman. It is a sequel to the 2020 film Extraction, and Chris Hemsworth, Golshifteh Farahani and Adam Bessa reprise their roles, with Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili and Idris Elba joining the cast.
Chris Hemsworth returns for Netflix’s expanding Extraction franchise, his muppety-handsome features squished into an expression of resolve with a soupçon of compassion. He appears to be wound up by a large key inserted into the gap between his shoulder blades. Extraction 2 Hemsworth reprises his role as Tyler Rake, the tough guy mercenary with a golden heart who we kind of assumed was dead at the end of the previous movie but turns out to have been just very very unwell, in the latest action film from screenwriter Joe Russo and director Sam Hargrave.
After spending some time in a posh, private hospital in Dubai, Tyler is restored to health and is flown in to save his ex-wife’s sister and her children from her abusive Georgian mob-boss husband. The film opens with the discovery and remediation of Rake’s quasi-corpse.
(That ex-wife must have a lot of money, incidentally, to support this sort of enterprise.) Although kicking ass isn’t exactly Golshifteh Farahani’s strong suit, his handler Nik (back in the picture) is doing a lot more actual combat this time around, including close-quarters martial arts maneuvers and stabbing bad men in the leg with a little serrated knife. Although it isn’t in the same league as Tom Cruise, Extraction 2 our hero also performs a good amount of dangling down the side of really tall, sleek glass structures.

He is, however, approached by a total stranger (Iris Elba) who begs him to free Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili), his ex-wife Mia’s (Olga Kurylenko) jailed sister, so that she can be reunited with her kids Sandro (Andro Japardize) and Nina (Marta Kovziashvili). Plot
After barely surviving his previous mission, Tyler Rake retires from mercenary work to a cabin in Austria after recovering at a hospital in Dubai, where he is approached by a stranger and is asked to rescue his ex-wife Mia’s sister Ketevan and her two children Sandro and Nina, who are currently imprisoned along with her gangster husband Davit Radiani at Tkachiri prison in Georgia.
Nik and Yaz are enlisted by Tyler to help him break into the prison. They try to sneak Ketevan and her kids out of the compound without waking up Davit, but he awakens and warns the other convicts who are loyal to him. Extraction 2 They then face Tyler and his team and incite a disturbance, forcing them to battle their way out. Davit confronts Tyler and Ketevan during the extraction, and Tyler brutally kills Davit.
Tyler and Ketevan must fight their way through the mob while being attacked frequently and are surrounded by captives. The team succeeds in escaping and making it back to their safe house in Vienna. Sandro, the teenage son of Ketevan and Davit who looks up to his father, learns that Tyler killed his father and calls his uncle, Davit’s overprotective elder brother Zurab, in secret. Zurab then sets out to find Tyler in order to discover his nephew and wreak revenge. Extraction 2
Tyler and the others are pursued by Zurab and his men to the safe house, where they are imprisoned. Sandro leaves the group amid the confusion to look for Zurab. Yaz is slain by Zurab before Tyler and the group are able to flee in one of his helicopters. The group meets up with Tyler and Ketevan in his cabin, where they are reunited with Mia.
