ghosted movie (2023)
Ghosted is a 2023 American romantic action-adventure comedy film directed by Dexter Fletcher and written by Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers, from a story by Reese and Wernick. The film stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
Driven by her determination, Emma begins to uncover a series of peculiar occurrences that suggest David’s presence lingers in the physical world. Haunted by strange noises, flickering lights, and unexplained phenomena, she becomes convinced that David’s spirit is trying to communicate with her.
In her quest for the truth, Emma encounters a retired detective, Sarah, who once worked on a similar case involving a missing person. Sarah reluctantly agrees to help Emma, as she too has been haunted by the unsolved mystery from her past. Together, they delve deeper into the dark secrets and hidden motives that may hold the key to David’s vanishing.
As Emma and Sarah dig deeper, they discover a web of deceit and betrayal, exposing a network of individuals with ulterior motives. They encounter shady characters, untrustworthy allies, and unexpected twists that keep them on the edge of their seats. The line between the living and the dead blurs as they encounter supernatural occurrences and confront their own beliefs about the afterlife.
Throughout the film, Emma grapples with her own sanity as she walks a thin line between reality and the supernatural. Is David truly communicating with her from beyond the grave, or is it all a figment of her imagination? The boundaries of perception are pushed as Emma’s relentless pursuit of the truth takes her on a journey that will test her resilience and challenge her notions of what is possible.
In the climactic finale, Emma unravels the truth behind David’s disappearance, uncovering a conspiracy that shakes her to the core. The film delves into themes of love, loss, and the lengths to which one will go to uncover the truth, even when faced with the unknown.
“Ghosted” is a haunting and atmospheric thriller that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. With its suspenseful plot, supernatural elements, and emotionally charged performances, the film offers a thought-provoking exploration of the human psyche and the lingering effects of loss.
The drama is really not a love story; at best it shows an entitled man who won’t take no for an answer. From Love Actually to 10 Things I Hate About You this is sadly nothing new.
Romantic comedies are littered with male heroes who deploy problematic, sometimes psychotic, behaviours in order to win over their heroine. After all, love conquers all, right? Even the reddest of flags.
The latest victim to this misguided trope is the Apple TV+ Chris Evans and Ana de Armas action-romance, Ghosted.
“I know it sounds crazy, but I think she might be the one,” Cole (Evans) announces to his family, after one date with art curator Sadie (De Armas). Turns out, his first impression was right – it is crazy.
Their partnership has never worked out. Sadie stormed off after their meet-cute, a clumsy conversation that turned sarcastic, but Cole was persuaded that they were truly flirting. He now approaches her for a date since he is intrigued.
After a spontaneous and enjoyable night together, Cole is on cloud nine, but when she doesn’t get in touch with him, he returns to reality. Cole rejects this nasty, though typical, aspect of contemporary dating. Before realizing that he left his inhaler (which had a tracker on it) in her bag and realizing that she was 5,000 miles away in London, he sends her 11 texts in the span of two days.
