If you’re prepping for a grand day out at the cinema, don’t forget the popcorn, because The Flash stretches out for 143 minutes and 55 seconds (2 hours and 24 minutes), making it one of the longer recent DC films. The Flash Movie Release Date (2023)
It is the 13th installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson and stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen / The Flash alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue, and Michael Keaton. In the film, Barry travels back in time to prevent his mother’s death, which brings unintended consequences.
Development of a film featuring the Flash began in the late 1980s, with multiple writers and directors attached to the project through 2014. The film was then redeveloped as a part of the DCEU, with Miller cast as the title character. Multiple directors were attached to the film over the following years, with Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa, and the duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein all departing the project over creative differences. Muschietti and Hodson joined the film in July 2019, and pre-production began in January 2020.
The film is influenced by the comic book storyline Flashpoint, featuring multiple DC Comics characters, including Ben Affleck and Keaton reprising their respective versions of Batman. Principal photography took place from April to October 2021 at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden and on location around the United Kingdom.
The majority of the time, when a studio begins showing a film in advance in an effort to create interest, the product is top-notch. However, none could have predicted that viewers of Warner Bros.’ The Flash would respond by shrugging in unison. The high-budget superhero extravaganza started at the home box office well below expectations, bringing in only $55 million over three days, and it didn’t fare much better abroad either.
The film debuted with $139 million worldwide after earning $75 million from 79 foreign markets. The domestic estimates for the extra-long four-day weekend, which are now estimated at $64 million, are being included by the studio. Comparatively, the global openings of Black Adam from last year and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice each brought in $140 million. But now that we know what happened, we can see how the film quickly lost its audience and ended up grossing less than $400 million worldwide. The Flash reportedly cost $200 million to produce (less an estimated $100 million for marketing), so it will need to gross about $600 million globally to break even.
However, what makes this situation even more disappointing is that Warner Bros. has supported this film despite significant behind-the-scenes drama, including a change in leadership, numerous script revisions, and a changing roster of directors, not to mention the negative publicity that star Ezra Miller’s personal problems brought to the project. The Flash Movie Miller didn’t make themselves accessible for interviews with the media in the weeks before the film’s release, but they did show up for the red carpet premiere. This might be one of the numerous factors contributing to the film’s underwhelming opening.
The Flash Ending Explained
But all one can do is guess. Not that the DC Extended Universe was booming in any other situation. Due to its last two films’ disastrous box office failures, the franchise has been struggling for a while. However, there was hope that The Flash would save the franchise just in time for a drastic makeover under the leadership of the new CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Gunn has been praising The Flash as one of the greatest superhero films ever made, and the production company has managed to secure endorsements from people like Tom Cruise and Stephen King. People seemed to truly want the movie to succeed, and there was a lot of positive buzz. The Flash Movie.
